Eddie Francis, Windsor Mayor
The youngest Mayor in the history of the City of Windsor, Eddie Francis was first elected Mayor in
November, 2003. Before the people of Windsor made Eddie Francis their Mayor, he ran a very successful
small family business with his brothers and was awarded the Windsor Chamber of Commerce Business
Excellence Award as the Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Eddie graduated with a combined undergraduate
degree in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of Western Ontario. He went on to graduate from
the University of Windsor Law School and was called to the Bar in 2002. He is a member of the Law Society
of Upper Canada and completed his articles with international law firm, Miller Canfield Paddock and
Stone.
Michael McDowell, National Sales Manager, Research In Motion
Michael joined the RIM-TELUS team as National Sales Manager in August of 2007. In his role, Michael is
responsible for building and implementing the national channel strategy for TELUS. Michael manages a
growing dedicated national sales and technical sales team from RIM's Waterloo headquarters. Before
joining the TELUS team Michael spent 3 years managing the sales team supporting Verizon Wireless with
BlackBerry sales in the Eastern US. Prior to RIM, Michael worked as a Professional Services consultant
with a software start-up and has worked within various areas of Rogers’ Wireless and IT divisions.
Todd Sands, Ph.D., Executive Director, Center for Smart Community Innovation, University of
Windsor
Todd Sands is the Executive Director of the Center for Smart Community Innovation at the University of
Windsor. He holds B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees, and has presented at more than 70 proceedings and workshops
in the areas of technology and community-based Regional Advanced Networks, or RANs. Dr. Sands’
professional activities are founded in the area of networking infrastructure and scalable project
development in Windsor and Essex County. He teaches in the area of Science and Technology at the
university, where all of his course material is delivered on-line. His collaborative approach to the use
technology and its application in education, health care, the municipal sector and industry, provides
opportunities for economic development, research and innovation in the Windsor and Essex County Smart
Community.

Sandra Pupatello was sworn in as Minister of
Economic Development and Trade on September 18, 2006 and remains the Minister Responsible for Women's Issues.
Prior to serving as Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Sandra Pupatello took on the roles of Minister
of Education as well as Minister of Community and Social Services. Minister Pupatello has deep roots in the
Windsor community. She was named honorary member of the Rotary Club of Windsor and a Paul Harris Fellow. In 2001,
the University of Windsor honoured her with the prestigious Charlie Clark Award for Outstanding Service and in
2007, Ms. Pupatello received the prestigious Athena Award.
